Workplace Misconduct Hotline Simulation
Status: In Progress
This eLearning simulation is being developed as a high-impact training tool for hotline staff and new investigators who manage sensitive workplace misconduct reports, such as harassment, fraud, retaliation, and whistleblower complaints. The simulation is designed for mid-sized to large organizations with internal or third-party investigative functions.
The stakes in this domain are high: improperly trained staff can lead to overlooked red flags, mishandled reports, legal exposure, and a breakdown of organizational trust. This simulation addresses those risks by immersing learners in realistic, high-pressure scenarios that reflect the ambiguity and ethical nuance of real-world hotline interactions
Instructional Design Features:
Scenario-Based Learning: Branching conversations and decision trees allow learners to manage sensitive calls in a risk-free environment where each decision affects trust, escalation timing, and case outcomes.
Authentic Simulation Environment: Includes voiceovers or chatbot-style dialogue, realistic office ambiance (blinking phone lines, message pings), and environmental pressure cues to simulate urgency.
Performance Assessments: Mini-assessments like transcript audits, case prioritization quizzes, and note-taking accuracy checkpoints.
Gamified Elements: Features like a “trust score” or resolution success meter to track learner progress and reinforce the importance of sound decision-making.
Case File Dashboard: Learners interact with digital case files including transcripts, emails, and notes, choosing what to prioritize and how to proceed.Sensitivity Dilemmas: Learners navigate difficult calls—such as complaints involving senior leadership—where there's no obvious “right” answer, encouraging critical thinking and ethical discernment.
To reinforce learning transfer, the final deliverable will include accompanying resources like on-the-job performance aids, real-world success stories in video format, and recognition incentives to drive engagement and performance.
This project demonstrates deep instructional design strategy, learner empathy, and creative use of interactivity and environmental storytelling. Upon completion, it will serve as a comprehensive portfolio piece showcasing my ability to design complex, behavior-changing learning experiences that are both engaging and impactful.
